Lovecraftian Thing a Day No.316: Vathek


It is somewhat apposite that earlier this week I finished reading William Beckford's Vathek - one of Lovecraft's favourite Gothic novelsabout a popular, yet murderous, egotistical, and despotic potentate who is both misogynistic and something of a sexual predator. Throwing his lot in with the powers of darkness, we might take some solace from the fact that things end very badly for our eponymous protagonist.
